Kate Bush’s “Love and Anger” popped up the other day when I was taking a walk around my neighborhood with my iPod on shuffle.
I just have to create a mix around this song, I thought.
At first my mind went more toward topical themes (emotions, secrets, etc.) But then I had this thought:
Songs with three-word titles where the first and last words are joined by “and.”
And thus was born my latest mixtape.

This and That
- Love and Anger – Kate Bush
- Over and Over – Hearts Of Saints
- Twist and Shout – The Beatles
- Heart and Soul – T’Pau
- Fire and Rain – James Taylor
- Alive and Kicking – Simple Minds
- Fire and Ice – Pat Benatar
- Sugar and Spice – Luther Vandross
- You and Me – Plain White T’s
- Touch and Go – The Cars
- Silver and Gold – U2
- Thunder and Lightning – Phil Collins
- Smoke and Ashes – Tracy Chapman
- Bend and Break – Keane
- Pool and a Pond – Caddyshack**
And which songs am I missing?
**I wanted to find the clip from This Is Spinal Tap where David St. Hubbins comments, “There’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.” Alas, I couldn’t find one, and had to settle for this Caddyshack clip.

Here are a couple to add:
ReplyDeleteYou and Me-Dave Matthews Band
Hide and Seek-Imogen Heap
Jack and Diane-John Mellencamp
Green and Gray-Nickel Creek
and if only the Indigo Girls wouldn't have thrown and extra "a" in their song, Hammer and a Nail, I would have added that one too:)

ReplyDeleteHow could you not include the greatest "and" song ever?
Casey, you've always got such great ideas! I didn't know the Imogen Heap and Nickel Creek songs. You're much more hip than me! :)
ReplyDeleteScott, all I can say is, um...no.
