MIXTAPE: This And That

Sometimes the idea for a mixtape comes to me while trying to make a home for a favorite song.

Kate Bush’s “Love and Anger” popped up the other day when I was taking a walk around my neighborhood with my iPod on shuffle.

I just have to create a mix around this song, I thought.

At first my mind went more toward topical themes (emotions, secrets, etc.) But then I had this thought:

Songs with three-word titles where the first and last words are joined by “and.”

And thus was born my latest mixtape.

This and That
  1. Love and Anger – Kate Bush
  2. Over and Over – Hearts Of Saints
  3. Twist and Shout – The Beatles
  4. Heart and Soul – T’Pau
  5. Fire and Rain – James Taylor
  6. Alive and Kicking – Simple Minds
  7. Fire and Ice – Pat Benatar
  8. Sugar and Spice – Luther Vandross
  9. You and Me – Plain White T’s
  10. Touch and Go – The Cars
  11. Silver and Gold – U2
  12. Thunder and Lightning – Phil Collins
  13. Smoke and Ashes – Tracy Chapman
  14. Bend and Break – Keane
  15. Pool and a PondCaddyshack**

And which songs am I missing?

**I wanted to find the clip from This Is Spinal Tap where David St. Hubbins comments, “There’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.” Alas, I couldn’t find one, and had to settle for this Caddyshack clip.

  1. Here are a couple to add:
    You and Me-Dave Matthews Band
    Hide and Seek-Imogen Heap
    Jack and Diane-John Mellencamp
    Green and Gray-Nickel Creek
and if only the Indigo Girls wouldn't have thrown and extra "a" in their song, Hammer and a Nail, I would have added that one too:)

  2. Round and Round by RATT

How could you not include the greatest "and" song ever?

  3. Casey, you've always got such great ideas! I didn't know the Imogen Heap and Nickel Creek songs. You're much more hip than me! :)

Scott, all I can say is, um...no.
