Reflections on LOST: The Greatest Stories Ever Told

The series finale for LOST—otherwise known as The Best TV Show Ever—aired 48 hours ago. Even though the show has ended, I find myself continuing to ruminate over it. Never before have I been so impacted by a TV show. I know many of you feel the same way.

I began to write my thoughts down. Those thoughts evolved into a series of posts, the first of which I’ll share tonight…

I subscribe to the belief that every great story—whether shared orally, in written form, or in moving pictures—is great because it echoes or illuminates The Story.

Every time we stop to wipe tears from our eyes while reading a favorite book. Or feel compelled to cheer out loud during a climactic scene in a movie. We respond this way because something deep within our hearts, within our souls, cries out, “Yes. This is true.”

I believe this is one of the many reasons—perhaps the main reason—LOST has been so compelling to watch these last six years: It called out our souls, so often neglected in our fast-paced Western world. It spoke of The Story behind all other stories.
