First I’d like to announce the winner of last month’s book giveaway: A copy of Richard Stearn’s The Hole in Our Gospel goes to…Katrina! Congratulations!
This month I’m giving away a copy of another eye-opening, life-changing book: 2009’s Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.
You really need to read this book if you haven’t already. Like now.
I found some of the (true) stories about the women very difficult to read. Yet I was incredibly inspired by the courage and creativity these women display in the face of overwhelming atrocity. And the overall tone of the book is hopeful.
I also appreciate how clearly the authors outline several simple yet significant ways to get involved in the movement to release women from oppression worldwide.
Here’s a brief video about the book:
If you would like to be entered into the book giveaway, simply fill out a comment below during the month of September and let me know why you’d like to read it. (If you are reading this via Facebook, make sure to leave a comment on the actual blog post.) I’ll announce the winner at the beginning of October!

Oooh, I haven't read it yet. And I want to because... you recommended it. No, seriously. Maybe no one else will comment?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a must-read to me. I want to learn more about the oppression of my sisters around the world. And this book sounds appealing because the painful stories are interwoven with others that inspire hope. If I win, I will read it and then give it to my friend Kirsten Beeler, as this issue is near and dear to her heart.
